Life Lately #9

Life Lately

Hi guys! April is behind us and I thought it would be nice to continue the tradition of monthly Life Lately inspirational posts.  Ready? Then dive into the portion of great stuff to watch, listen and even to read. Oh, yeah!

1. Gilmore Girls

Oldies but goodies. Seriously, I still wonder why I haven’t heard about this TV series before. It’s so addictive, light and entertaining. No violence, dirty talks, sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. It’s not boring. I promise. Can you imagine? The show was on for 7 seasons between 2000 and 2007. Nine years later in 2016 “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” was released. It’s mini TV series and it appears to be the sequel to Gilmore Girls. Actually thanks to “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” advertisement on Instagram I found out about the TV show.

The beginning of the story takes place in the fictional town Stars Hollow, state Connecticut, and follows the story of Gilmore family, single 30-something mother Lorelei and her teenage daughter Rory. Lorelei runs a small Inn and can’t live without coffee and take-out food. Rory is a smart teenage girl who loves books and studies. One day Lorelei decides her daughter needs to go to a private school Chilton to get better education and have a better chance to accomplish the biggest dream in her life – get admitted to Harvard. With this decision the life of mother and daughter changes 180 degrees. Lorelei renews the relationship with her rich parents in order to get a loan for the tuition in Chilton. From now on she and Rory have to admit Friday dinners at her parent’s mansion and listen to their criticism as 16 years ago Lorelei upset them so much….

I don’t really want to tell you the whole plot… Just start watching and you won’t stop your TV marathon till the very end of the show.

2. Big Little Lies

My biggest crush on this HBO miniseries recently. I could give everything for the ocean views, incredible houses in Monterey, California. One love. Seriously. What should I say. I watched the whole story in one breath. It’s so sexy, dark, true and realistic.

It’s a drama consisting of only 7 episodes and starring amazing Hollywood divas Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Kravitz and Shailene Woodley. The story tells about Monterey moms and their perfect marriages, perfect kids and perfect houses. That’s what one might think. But what hides behind these perfect lives may lead to a tragedy. Even a crime…

3. Sandorkraut

This is a short documentary by The New York Times about Sandor Ellix Katz, a man who ferments almost everything which can undergo the process of fermenting. If you have ever heard or even read the bestselling book “The Art of Fermentation: An In-Depth Exploration of Essential Concepts and Processes from around the World”, then you’ll understand what I am talking about. But if you are completely newbie to the world of fermentation and want to dig in one of the oldest ways of preparing food and drinks, watch the documentary first to get a fermentation vibe. Then necessarily get a book to increase your knowledge about fermentation. Finally start your fermentation journey.

4. Bloom. Navigating Life and Style by Estée Lalonde

life lately

This is probably the first time in the history of the blog and monthly roundups. Cheers to the book of the month! The #BloomBook (I’ve used the official Instagram tag). Estée is a You Tuber and such a lovely person. I’ve been watching her YT channel for a few years now. And I should say she does such  great sincere videos. Even a simple make up haul turns into a true entertaining TV show. Estée is also the biggest inspiration to me. Thanks to the book I’ve realized we have a few things in common in the stories of our lives. Now I know I am not the only one crazy girl in the world who moved to a foreign country thousands kilometers away from home following heart and true love. From the perspective of years it sounds insane. And it is insane. I survived through the same emotional crisis and felt incredibly homesick. Estée shared her story of moving to UK from Canada and it spoke to my heart so much. I’m amazed. Estée, you’ve found yourself in doing YouTube videos, you published a book your followers from around the world can read. I am still looking for my own place in the terms of career. Oh, and I’ve always dreamt of writing and publishing my own book. Just like you. How cool is that to find someone who thinks similar. It’s so inspiring!

P.S.: I also recommend to subscribe to Estée’s YouTube channel if you like to watch videos about makeup, home design, fashion and lifestyle inspo.

5. Stay See Mixes

I couldn’t finish today’s Life Lately post without music. I’ve been into 80-s and 90-s music throughout the last few months. Recently I’ve bumped into great 80-90-s lounge mixes by Stay See while looking for some nice music on YouTube. Yes, I am a big fan of YouTube if you didn’t know. I recommend you to start with these two mixes below. I am pretty sure you will love them. Besides, Stay See uploaded lots of other great lounge sets that you may like as well. I believe, good music does a positive change to the working atmosphere. You’ll get into the flow mode. Enjoy!

So, this is what I loved in April. What about you? Any particular recommendations what to watch, to hear or to read in May? I’ll be happy to hear about your great finds.
